Ideas for Singles on Valentines Day

If you use your imagination you can come up with lots of Valentine's Day ideas when you're single to enjoy the day although differently than couples.  People who are single can have just as much fun on Valentine's Day too.  If you are single and you have friends who are in a relationship, be happy for them and make your own arrangements to go out and enjoy yourself.  Of course, if you have recently gone through a relationship breakup, the day may seem like it will be more difficult to deal with.  This is when you rely on family and friends to help you cope and center your attention on something else.  There are ways and ideas that can shift your thoughts away from all the glitz and promotion associated with Valentine's Day.

In as much as Valentine's Day has been viewed as a day for couples, many singles have taken matters into their own hands and focused their love on family and friends instead of feeling depressed because they aren't in a relationship at the moment.  Many of them realize that things change and will arrange to participate in other events on that day.  They may call their friends and arrange a tobogganing or tubing party or even a skiing trip at their favorite hill.  Adults have fun sliding down a slippery slope on an inner tube as much as the kids do.  Get some of your chums together and go out for dinner and a movie.  Consider hosting a card or game night for family or friends, or have a little birthday party for Cupid.  Have you considered an evening of bowling or mini-putt with a friendly competition where the loser buys the pizza afterwards.  Nobody says that all must revolve around just couples, mushy Valentine's messages, or giving gifts.  There is no law to say that on Valentine's Day, single people need to be miserable.  Anyone can enjoy the day if they put their mind to it.

Some other Valentine's Day ideas when you're single might include visiting with your family or helping your nieces and nephews with their valentines for classmates and friends.  Little children love the attention and help with their projects and there is probably a giggle or two in there for you as they describe their friends as they go along.

If you really would rather be on your own, there are ways you can help yourself deal with Valentine's Day, stay out of the doldrums, and focus your mind on more pleasant thoughts.  Grab a couple of good movies, make a big bowl of popcorn, and settle in for an enjoyable home theatre evening.  Take that bestseller off the shelf, curl up and read about adventures in some far off land.  You can treat yourself to something you enjoy or want, you deserve it.  What is to say that you can't buy yourself a few flowers or a box of your favorite chocolates to lift your spirits.  Resurrect that hobby you have stored in the closet or find a new one to try.  Spend some extra time with your pet and go out for a long walk or buy it a new toy to play with.  Focus your love and attention on your dog or cat who will always be devoted to you and is always there for you.  Valentine's Day is supposed to be for sharing your love and no one says it has to be with a human partner.

Valentine's Day doesn't have to be a depressing or lonely day for singles.  Valentine's Day ideas when you're single are only limited to your imagination and the attitude you choose to take.  Think of others and how you might be able to make them happy and put a smile on their faces.  Perhaps you could volunteer at an old age home or a community center where you could hand out a batch of your favorite homemade cookies.  The act of giving and taking an interest in others would make you feel good and light up the hearts of others by making them feel special too.  Don't let yourself be depressed or sad on Valentine's Day.  Pick yourself up and realize that not only will things change before next year rolls around, but that you can enjoy Valentine's Day as a single person too if you put some thought into it.
